Faces of Galway 32/100

Meet Garrett from Castlegar, Galway.

As a teenager Garrett was a reluctent student. When the opportunity to get out of a double maths class arose he took it. He auditioned for a part in school musical version of Silas Marner. Not only did Garrett manage to avoid a few maths lessons but he also changed his life direction. Landing the lead role Garrett forged a career in music and acting. Probably best know as the lead singer in the Black Magic Big Band Garrett has performed all over Ireland and sang at many a wedding. He also acts, and in 2010 auditioned for a role in Ros na Rún. Not having great Irish at the time he enlisted help from a few friends to help understand and learn the 4 page script. Garrett got the role and 5 years and mountains of scripts later, he is now pretty fluent in Irish.

As one of his many skills Garrett also works as a voice over artist and in 2007 he was asked to cover for the announcer at the Connaught rugby grounds. Like so many of Garrett's ventures it became long term and he is still working there. This means a lot to Garrett as he remembers standing in the cold stands as a child supporting his team. Garrett played school rugby for The Jes and Galwegians was proud to have ventured on the pitch on a few occasions. He was  fly half at the same time he was playing prince charming in a Renmore Pantomine!

Garrett isn't afraid to try new things, he has a few marathons under his belt and is currently training for the Dublin marathon. If you want a daily chuckle find Garrett on twitter to follow his amusing training progress.
