Faces of Galway 65/100
Meet Jamie from Taupo, New Zealand.
It was a flip of a coin that resulted in Jamie moving to Galway with his wife. He has lived his life with a fluidity which has has made him always open to the next experience. He grew up in New Zealand with his mum, while his dad was in Switzerland and relatives in the US and Hong Kong. Travelling and living amongst different cultures, in different parts of the world, has always been the norm for Jamie. After training as a chef in New Zealand he bought a one-way ticket to London where he ended up working the famous restaurant; The Ivy. He worked as head of sauces, but it was a long time before he created his own line of sauces.
With constant itchy feet Jamie decided to save up and travel, on an overlander, from London to Cape Town. The trip took one year and Jamie met his wife, from Kilkenny, in Zimbabwe. She was offered a job in both Cork and Galway so they flipped a coin to choose which she should take. Jamie is delighted they have moved here and feels very settled amongst the community.
Jamie is known for many enterprises around the city. In 2005 he set up Chef de Partie, followed by Dim SumSam in 2007. Jamie then opened the award wining cafe, Builín Blasta, in Spiddal. His latest venture is one which he is approaching with positivity and a feel good factor. The Sauce Guy is a range a tomato based sauces which are staples in everyone's cupboard. Not only are they low in sugar and salt they are also helping out our local community. For every bottle sold 20 cent is donated to the charities helping support positive mental health. So why don't you check out Jamie's website here and help support local charities while enjoying sauces created locally by a top class chef!
