Faces of Galway 49/100
Meet Martha from The Wirral, England.
Martha had just finished her B.A. in Film in Nottingham when her parents decided to move to Galway. With no set plans at the time she decided she would come with them and study a Masters of Film Theory, in the Huston school of Film and Digital Media at NUIG. Martha is currently completing her dissertation on cinema spaces. She loves watching films and enjoys thinking about the space in which we experience them. As a Wes Anderson fan Martha would like to set a screening of "The Royal Tenenbaums" in a New York Brownstone. Each room would be styled to reflect in the film's main characters.
To date Martha's most enjoyable cinema experience was when she watched "Badlands" at the British History museum in London. With the possibility of doing a PhD Martha is more interested in the study and showing of films, rather than creating or taking part in them. The dream would be to organise film festivals in Galway that would allow the viewer to have an interactive experience whilst viewing their favourite movie.
For many Galway people Martha is the friendly face who runs The Twelve Pins Bakery Shop in Barna. Martha loves her job and has gotten to know so many people in a short space of time. Working there has given her a real sense of community and has helped created a new home away from home. Next time you pop in for a cake why don't you have a chat with Martha about your favourite movie and where you would like to see it screened!
