Meet Daniel from Galway
Daniel is the man behind Galway's most interesting cafe; Coffeewerk + Press, he is the point where design meets coffee. A musician by trade, Daniel treats every aspect of his business like a well written score. Every detail is considered to ensure it will only add to your experience; beautiful lights, bags and prints have been meticulously chosen for sale, but they are also there to allow you to enjoy a coffee while enjoying the space. The coffee is chosen from one of the world's best roasters in Copenhagen, and the process involved in creating your cup of coffee is almost as complicated as creating music.
Daniel trained as a musician, focusing on drums, and spent time studying and working in Cuba, Berlin and London. He spent a lot of time doing workshops and trying to help artists improve their trade and become more financially secure. He returned to Galway to help run his parents store, The Wooden Heart, when his dad had an health scare. Influenced by the simplicity of Scandinavian design Daniel enjoyed the challenge of running this traditional wooden toy store. The economic collapse in 2008 was a big challenge but he discovered that people wanted to move away from the mass produced projects and take more care in what they were purchasing. Quality as more important then anything else so Daniel decided that he would create a space where people could enjoy quality coffee and browse through quality products.
Daniel is ambitious, but he is also very open. His favourite word is "dialogue" and the theme behind the Coffeewerk + Press cafe was to create a dialogue between the customers and their surroundings. There is also a dialogue between his staff. He shares all of his ideas with his staff and trains them on every aspect of the business. When Daniel started this cafe wanting it to be one of the best coffee shops in Galway; I believe he has achieved this. This philosophy to strive for perfection sees Coffeewerk + Press being nominated in The Irish Times Best shops of Ireland 2016. We wish him all the best of luck tomorrow when the results ar announced.
