Newborn photoshoot at home - what to expect
Lifestyle sessions are relaxed and easy going. You do not need to get your baby photographed before they are 14 days. I don’t swaddle babies and put them in baskets, instead you dress them, feed them, love them and I will be there to capture it all. Does this sound like something you would enjoy? Then read on.
Those early days of a new baby are unpredictable. Having three kids myself I know the reality of pregnancy, labour and those early days of a new born baby. You have enough to deal with without having to get the family out the door to a photoshoot where the baby is expected to be fed and sleep to get those perfect photos. Perfect photos are ones where I can capture the family together, relaxed in their own home. Where older siblings can be part of the photos without having to sit still .
Siblings can enjoy the flexibility of being at home. They can go and play with their toys at their leisure without the need for parents to be stressed about them sitting still. I will still manage to get their portrait taken.
“Home is where my baby is.”
What do you need to do think about before I come to your home?
I like photographing little hands and feet, so try ensure the babies toes are fluff free nails are trimmed - this also applies to siblings.
I only need two rooms; one is a bedroom as a bed provides the perfect spot for photographing babies, especially if they have young siblings. The other is usually the living room or kitchen where you can be relaxed and I can capture candid photos of you as a family. Don't worry about cleaning the rest of the house - I won’t be there, unless your toddler wants to show me around the house (it happens!) and if they do I wouldn’t care about mess.
Which room has the best light at our arranged time? These are the rooms we will use, so if you really want photos in a certain room, make note of what time of day it is filled with light - this should determine our shoot time.
Bed linen - the best backdrop is white and plain, this allows your baby to stand out and also helps fill the space with more light.
What to wear - for at home sessions I would suggest casual and neutral. Try to ensure the colour tone of everyone’s clothes match. For more information on a style guide just click here
