Faces of Galway 69/100

Meet Liz from Roscam.

Over twenty years ago Liz was working in a special needs school as a teaching assistant. There was no budget for costumes so on dress up days Liz would paint the faces of the students. Word started to spread and Liz was booked for parties. Face painting and balloon twisting was always a fun part time job for Liz. It wasn't until years later she started working full time and is now recognised by children, and adults, around Galway as the amazing face painter and balloon twister.

In the mid 2000's Liz was working on the production line in Medtronic. While stopped in traffic one day a car came speeding up behind her and went straight into the back of her car. She damaged her neck and shoulder resulting in loss of power in her arm but would slowly recover. A few years later she was stopped at a T Junction outside of a shop when a car came speeding around a corner and drove straight into the side of her car. This time she wasn't so lucky. She needed to go into hospital for spinal surgery. With prior blood tests it was discovered that Liz had BRCA2. Her mum died of the same cancer when Liz was 11 so the doctors said Liz would have to have a double mastectomy and a hysterectomy. Suddenly she was recovering from multiple surgeries and could no longer work on a production line.

Liz always found happiness in painting faces and loved the reaction when children, and adults, saw the finished result. So she decided to turn it into her full time job and started attended workshops throughout the world. By going to conventions she was able to train with the best face painters and ballon twisters. She is so well trained now that her motto is "if you can imagine it, I can create it!"This has resulted in her creating a full sized wearable minion balloon and at one convention in Belgium she, along with other balloon twisters, set a Guinness World Record. They built a 600 metre square maze using over 100,000 balloons!

Liz loves her new focus in life and has never been happier. She is busy working corporate and private events and has big plans for a balloon display for Galway in 2020, we can't wait to see what she will create. Check out Liz's Facebook page here and arrange her to bring some fun to your next party!
