Faces of Galway 92/100
Meet Lauragh from Gort.
At the age of 14 Lauragh was asked to write about the person who inspired her the most. She chose to ignore the usual celebrities and historical figures and wrote about her grandfather instead. From that day on, Lauragh developed a newfound love for the English language and began composing poems and short stories for special occasions. After her Leaving Certificate, she headed off to Limerick to study for a degree in Business and Marketing. Lauragh went straight from her studies to work for Harmonia Publishers in Dublin where she was involved in organising a number of high-profile national events. She returned to Galway to take up the role of Events Co-ordinator with Goldenegg Productions where she has worked her way up the ranks to her current position as Editor of GALWAYnow Magazine.
Lauragh always had a keen interest in fashion and working with GALWAYnow allows her to keep on top of the latest trends. For six years, Lauragh organised the hugely successful Irish Fashion Innovation Awards for Goldenegg Productions. Showcasing the highest expression of creativity from the most innovative designers in Ireland, the event is recognised as a launching pad for Ireland’s most talented and creative designers.
Lauragh is also a member of the Breast Cancer Research committee. In 2014, she had a dream that she was taking part in a big charity event. A few days later, she saw an advertisement for the NBCRI Grand Canyon Walking Challenge. At the time, Lauragh was recovering from autonomic nervous system failure so everyone thought undertaking such a challenging walk would be too much for her. She was determined to complete the trek and felt that the experience really helped her to get on the road to recovery. Lauragh raised €10,000 for the charity and discovered that making time to be involved in charity work was a reward in itself.
