Faces of Galway 11/100
Meet Tanya from Portumna!
*UPDATE* we found Tanya!
We commented in the original blog that Tanya had a very calm and confident demeanour which meant she was easy to photograph, well it all makes sense now. A nurse in a busy Dublin hospital would have to be calm and confident. Tanya hadn't been in touch as she had been super busy the last few weeks working night shifts in St. Vincent's Hospital Dublin.
Although now living in Dublin she loves to travelling back to Galway and much further a field. During her training as a nurse Tanya spent some time in Uganda (place close to our hearts at Wonky Eye Photography) working in a health clinic. She spent her days travelling to remote villages testing all ages for HIV, an estimated 1.5 million people live with HIV in Uganda. Tanya also taught first aid in schools and even got involved with building! This was an eye opening experience and encouraged Tanya to continue her travels throughout Asia and Europe. Her next place to hopefully visit is Iceland, another favourite of ours, with her boyfriend who seemed to be used of Tanya being in the limelight and happily held her purse while I took her photo!
We are delighted we found Tanya and congratulate her on all of her hard work.
After photographing the Oyster bar at the Galway Races I wanted to get a lady from Galway to include in this project. The Galway Races have long been the highlight of the year and the focus in recent years seemed to have shifted slightly away from the racing itself to the beautiful ladies and draper men who attend. I approached so many ladies but there were from everywhere but Galway. So running out of time I headed to leave and then spotted Tanya walking through the gate I was about to go through. Accompanied by three suited up men Tanya stood out a an image of sunshine on an otherwise rainy day. She was from Galway and was happy to be part of our project. Tanya had a very calm yet confident demeanour and was very easy photograph.
I had a quick chat with Tanya about the project and gave her my card to email me for a copy of the image; but we haven't heard from her yet. I was in a rush to go so I don't have Tanya's story and let her go without getting her email. I would love to be able to update this blog so if you know Tanya please ask her to get in touch so we can find out more about her.
