The RPS International Print Exhibition 159 entry
The male frigate bird goes to great lengths to attract a female. Photographing them on the Galapagos islands was a treat. As a female silhouetted the sky chaos ensued. Wings would suddenly stretch out and vibrate, a loud drum like call would fill the air, and inflated red sacs would ballon under the chin of the hopefully males. This is a spectacle to watch. As the the female flies off unimpressed a sea of dejected males resting their heads on their over inflated pouches is both comical and sad!
We entered this image into RPS print competition due to its beautiful constratsting colours and textures. The blurred background almost imitates the feathers of the bird but leaves us wondering where this strange creature is.
