Faces of Galway 13/100
Meet Fiona from Oranmore
I met Fiona last week when I repeatedly fell off my windsurfing board and face planted in the water. She immediately stood out as the only female windsurfing instructor and is a very calm presence in the water at Rusheen Bay. She is old beyond her years, having started windsurfing at the tender age of nine she is now a fully qualified instructor. But that isn't all she is, she is currently waiting on the results of her leaving certificate, which are out next week. The points she needs...723! Yes that's right, 723 points to study Medicine! Those wanting to study medicine now also have to sit a HPAT exam which in theory allows them to get a further 300 points but the reality is people rarely get higher then 200, so, 6 A1's in Honours papers are still the first aim! Fiona was so close last year only missing out by 8 points; but it doesn't bother her, she had a great year and feels she is now more ready for student life at, hopefully, NUIG.
We wish Fiona the best of luck next week!
