Faces of Galway 76/100

Meet Fiona from Tralee.

If you need to find an interesting person, anywhere in the world, Fiona is the person to call. From; getting a mobile number for World famous boxer, Eusebio Pedroza in Panama for the TG4 show "Hector Central", to an Irish girl living in Dubai who is craving Pork, for RTE 1's series "Tastes Like Home", Fiona is an expert researcher. She currently works as an Assistant Producer within the TV Industry and particularly loves Casting interesting contributors for different shows.

Fiona has moved a lot in her life and at the age of ten her family left the Tralee to move to her mother's homeland of Connemara. While Galway is now a base for Fiona she has worked and lived all over Ireland, and spent time in the U.K.  working on a popular BBC1 series "Real Rescues". As a freelancer she finds many periods of downtime between one contract ending and another beginning. On one such occasion she decided to use her TEFL qualification and apply for a job in China. The interview was conducted on Skype but she never really thought anything would come out of it. Before she knew it her father was driving her to Dublin airport. A suitcase in one hand and a one way ticket in the other. Having no Mandarin she describes her first moment in the classroom like something from a scene of Father Ted. Greeted by a class of polite students saying "Nǐ hǎo" her instinct was to respond "Howya lads".  Thankfully she didn't and had a very successful year teaching 10 - 14 year olds.

After a wonderful year in Xiangtan, China, Fiona was ready to return to TV and moved back to Ireland. Her favourite form of show to work in is entertainment, and she was delighted to work as part of the X Factor production team when the show came to Dublin. This form of TV is where her heart lies and she has worked on numerous talent shows for Irish Channels; RTE & TG4. When Fiona isn't in her office working hard she loves to keep fit & enjoys the outdoors. From climbing Carrauntoohill, walking the Camino de Santiago in Spain to completing the Galway Bay Marathon, she now has her mind set on competition in the Dublin Marathon this year.
